I had a rather early start this morning ... I got up to greet the sun with a dear friend. The sun didn't really show up, this being a typical English summer and all, but it was a glorious morning none the less.
We battled our way against the wind down past Henry VIII's old sea fort and onto the shore. The grey sky beginning to show a soft glow of white through the clouds where the sun should be. Eventually that glow turned into a huge white semi circle on the horizon to the east ... a strange sunrise indeed. Strange and wonderful. The power of the sun tangible, yet invisible. We stood in the with one foot in this reality and one in the Otherworld for sure. The waves were filled with mermaids, we both noticed them, icy and cold, lithe forms in the wild sea.
We created two stone mandalas, way out on the end of the spit, our honourings to the sun. Peaceful in the wildness. On the wander back we were gifted two awesomely, large pieces of driftwood that we lugged back to the car.
The sun climbed higher and we were granted a snippet of blue whilst we sat and had our breakfast ... hot spicy tea, wild strawberries, salad wraps and raw cacao.
It was a lovely start to this solstice day, our time in the half light. Time for me to contemplate all I have achieved, how I've grown and ripened within. Midsummer is a time of the first harvest, a time to reap the rewards of hard work sown and a good time for really focussing on projects we have started and not yet finished. Then when autumn comes we will have bumper crop to glean.
It's a time to be honest about whether we reached our full potential? Have we maximised our gifts and talents? What further work we have to do? Is there anything stopping us from ripening?
So although it is really the beginning of the end of summer as the Oak King loses his crown to the Holly King, we will feel the warmth of the sun for many months on the inner planes as well as the physical reality. Just as the sea is warm at the end of the day, perfect for that early evening splash, the coming months are the time to enjoy the solar energies and revel in the sunlight.
Solstice Blessings One and All, may the strength of sun warm your heart, fuel your body and fire your mind. May you feel the solar energies rising like sap within you.
